• Hello all, great forums.

I am a graphic designer who is attempting to do my own website. I know basic website knowledge. I’m using WordPress for the first time. I thought I had everything setup correctly. I opened the “wp-config.php” in wordpad. Went through and typed all of my info correctly. When I upload the “wp-config.php” and try to open the “install.php”, I get the following message:

    “Error: PHP is not running

WordPress requires that your web server is running PHP. Your server does not have PHP installed, or PHP is turned off.”

I purchased the domain and hosting space through http://www.DirectNIC.com. I am getting the Database Name, Username, and Password from MySQL Database. Just wondering what I am doing to get the PHP error. Thanks in advance. Oh, I also purchased a theme through ThemeForest if that makes a difference.

  • That’s a host problem; ask directnic about php in your hosting account. See http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

First mistake: You should never open any .php file using anything other than a plain text editor such as NotePad.

    I get the following message:

Did you check that your hosting satisfies the minimum requirements needed to run WordPress?

I will check with my host and see what they say. The “readme” that came with WordPress said wordpad would work fine. I’ll use NotePad next time, thanks for the help so far. I’ll keep you all updated on what DirectNIC says. If they do not support what I need, is there a certain host you all would recommend for this?

DirectNIC looks like they should be OK. If not, see http://wordpress.org/hosting/

    Heya ,

Like songdogtech indicated, WordPad can be a little tricky. You can use it just fine, but know that by default it saves all files as Rich Text Format (.rtf). You can change that by either always choosing to “Save As” and choose the .txt format, or by altering the default save as option. Learn how to do that here.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers!
