Disable user defined URL Queries

    I just learned that anyone could type in a tag or category query and find a response of all posts for that item.
    Example: http://www.mysite.com/tag/exampletag

    How can I disable this functionality so that the site either states the page doesn’t exist or takes the user to the home page?

    FYI, this is not for a blogging site, but a business cms.
