Could you try going to Settings -> permalinks and click save.

I have done everything as described but when I inserted the map onto the WordPress page – I can’t see it. Won’t preview.

could you try switching to the Tenty Ten or Twenty Eleven theme? Try disabling all other plugins.
Also make sure you’ve actually added some locations and checked the display on map for each one.
Will do. But this is the only plugin I have activated on the site at this stage. It might a theme issue though.

Check for the presence of the wp_footer() function in the templates. Usually in footer.php
