Cannot access sidebar widgets in 3.4

After upgrading to 3.4, I cannot add, modify or delete any widgets in the two sidebars in the “Magazine-Basic” theme. (I am gun-shy about upgrading to 3.4 with other themes at this point.)

I also cannot access the Screen Options. Clicking in any of their tabs/buttons/arrows has no effect.
