• When I upload images using WordPress media, it automatically stores it in this folder wp-content/uploads, I want to seperate into categories of folders of my images in the root of the domain, how do I do this?

    Will all images display properly?

  • There is an option at:

Admin Dashboard>Settings>Media>”Organize my uploads into month and year based folders”>Check it to create month based folders.

Also, you can use an FTP tool like Filezilla or your host provided file manager to upload media files, then add them in using the ‘from url’ tab – just include the full path and file name properly – it can even be from another cloud server for example.

I don’t want the folder names to be month based, I want them as custom names of my own choice,

If I upload the images via FTP, will it allow me to use it as featured image on WordPress?

An option is the excellent NextGen Gallery plugin which has great integration with featured images. It is a top plugin.

Does NextGen Gallery plugin upload images to different filepath location?
