• Hi,

I lost the connection to my localhost installation! It was working fine but I just tried to change the installation folder name but it didn’t work, then why I go back to the previous name it won’t work neither!
I have an error message: database connection fails” where I didn’t touch the files or database config! I just tried to change the folder name where WP is installed to see if it works with another name but it doesn’t!
Any idea to fix this issue?

  • If you didn’t change anything, can you confirm that the database server service is running?

    What are you using?

    Thanks John.
Yes, the database server is running.
    I’m using WAMP.
It is a little bit strange that renaming the folder and then go back to the default name cause it not working!

Which directory name did you change exactly? Did you change the htdocs or a sub directory?

Try a combination of these sitename=localhost or 127.0.0.1/wordpress/index.php
    sitename/changedfoldername/index.php
As per Johnb81 what name did you change, hopefully not the core folders i.e.wp content or similar

Also if you change names in xampp/wampp you have to reboot.
