Posts showing on separate pages

Just starting to set up a wp site from an installed theme with intent to modify. Currently adding some content and sample posts to get a visual reference on things. However, my posts for the blog page seem to be showing up on individual pages rather than all on one page. I have my reading settings set up to 20 posts. I have a _blog.php and a _post.php template in my editor. Not sure what I am missing. Any help appreciated.
