Different "home" page vs old posts | WordPress.org

I want to show a slider of posts on my very first page of posts on my blog (while still showing the list of posts below) but not on any of the older pages of posts (ie those accessed when clicking “older posts”).

Is there a way to differentiate between the page people land on vs those that are psuedo-archives?

So I can use is_paged to make my home.php show one thing when it’s the 1st page and not show it on the subsequent pages?
