• I’m copying and pasting images and text from other pages on another site into new wordpress pages. The new pages look great, load fine, etc. My question is: Where are those images? They do not show up in the media library so I don’t know how to edit them if I need to. Should I file them in the media library and build my new page from there?

If I type in my url with /wp-content/uploads/ I’m told that I don’t have permission to access /wp-content/uploads/. If I use my ftp program to view files on the server I see /wp-content/uploads/ but I don’t see those pasted images — just the ones that are in the media library. Can I get to /wp-content/uploads via the dashboard?

also check path in Admin => Settings => Media,

I think that you have a missunderstanding about how the image uploads work. It’s not exactly uncommon because it’s not quite as intuative as it is worh something like Word.

When you cut-and-paste text and images, you only get the text. That’s all that can be saved from the editing window. to upload the images you need to sve them as individual image files (like .jpg or .gif) on your local comptuer, and then upload them using the media manager for the post/page that you are on. That’s the little icon above the editor window that looks like a camera. From there you can insert the images into your text where ever they need to go.

I appreciate all of your comments.

Re t-p: wp-content/uploads is my designated destination for uploads. I just don’t know how to find this file from the dashboard

Re michael: The process that you describe for uploading and inserting files is the one that I typically use and was quite surprised that my cut/paste approach with images worked at all.

While I have you . . is there any way to organize the media library into folders?

Check the “Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders” in Settings -> Media.

Thanks esmi. I had done that but wanted to organize them into categories.

That’s not possible without a suitable plugin.

Thanks esmi. What plugin is available for this? I’ve searched and didn’t find one.
