• Hi, we’re going to have a custom theme developed and are wondering the following:

Does a good theme provide an easy interface for changing all text on the page? Does it allow easy adding and changing of pages, menu items, pictures? Do these interfaces become part of the wordpress dashboard or ?

I understand that coding the theme should adhere to all wordpress guildelines. Do most WP developers do a good job of this? How does a non-technical person specify and ensure they receive a god job?

Is there a checklist or process a non-techie can use to make sure they stay on the right track?

    Thanks in advance!

Most of those things are core WordPress functionality already, not really part of the theme.

Difficult to answer that. For themes in the official WP directory and most premium themes – yes. For other free themes and custom built themes its impossible to say. It all depends on the developer.

For custom theme development – hire a reputable theme developer and be prepared to pay for it. You usually get what you pay for. Another option is to use a premium theme and get that customized. Some of the top premium theme providers such as Woothemes, StudioPress etc offer theme customization services.
