David,
Would you mind telling me what you mean by “clean links?” I’d be willing to try to help you, but I’m not sure about what you are asking.
Thanks.
Craig.
Hmm…there are no permalinks on the page indicated by the posted link.
Hi there,
That link was an example of the kinda links I was aiming for π
Help pleaaaaaaaaaase π
David
What is a CVS version?
Thanks
Yes, it’s in the CVS version, and it’s very nice. You get to define your permalink format using variables like %year%, %monthnum%, %day%, and %postname%. Permalinks on my test blog look like:
http://dougal.gunters.org/test/wordpress/archive/2003/10/8/hello-world
Dougal, how’d you embed that php code in an earlier entry? π
skeen,
Glad to have provided a chuckle for you! π I’m glad, also, that you understood David’s original post. However, I still have no idea what the concept of “clean links” is all about. What is it about a permalink that makes it a “clean” link?
Enquiring newbies want to know!
Thanks for your help…
Craig.
Skeen,
Thanks for the explanation! That makes perfect sense. It’s like that “icky explorer browser” that has a setting to show “Friendly URLs.” π
I never thought of a permalink specifically as a “friendly URL” in the sense that I would hope that all my links could be this way. I appreciate your taking the time to explain this to me!
Craig.
Is there a link to download the full CVS version?
Thanks
No, you have to use a tool like Tortoise to download it. See:

or, if you’re using Windows,

Hi there,
I tried the Tortoise but what password should I use as ‘anonymous’ was not excepted
