Parse error, unexpected ‘;’

    I get the following error when trying to install on my 1and1 account. I do have the requirements to run wp.
    Parse error: parse error, unexpected ‘;’, expecting T_VARIABLE or ‘$’ in /homepages/23/d90060060/htdocs/blog/wp-includes/functions-post.php on line 599
    I’ve searched the forums and checked the functions-post.php but I don’t see what it’s talking about.
    Here’s line 599 $pung[] = $;
    I’m totally new to anything php mysql related, but I really want to learn.
    Here’s the versions on my host:

    package:
    Language Version
    Apache 1.3.29
    Perl 5.6.1
    PHP 4.3.6
    MySQL 4.0.20
    GD Library 2.0.21 with GIF support

    Delete the file ‘functions.php’
    Upload another. Do not overwrite.
    If that fails, delete all the files inside the /wp-inludes directory, then reupload new.
    Overwriting will cause errors, so delete first.

    Thanks so much! Deleting the functions.php didn’t work, but deleting the entire directory and uploading again did. Thanks!
