Confused and Frustrated

    HI Everyone, Im sure im having a blonde moment and sorry for asking such a basic question. but. I have a wordpress.com account and have started making my website. I then noticed a very nice theme called f8-lite and wanted to use that one.
    I found the files and with a google search and uploaded them to my website by ftp.
    When I had problems “activating” the theme I decided to post a comment in the forum site wordpress.com. I was then told I was on the wrong site and wordpress.org was the place for my question.

    Guys, are these totally different site? How do I get f8-lite to work on my site. What do I need to do to activate it?
    Reading the doco provided it looks really simply, unzip, upload, click appearance from wp admin
    done. I dont see the them in my wp admin panel.. 🙁

    Help please

    Yes they’re totally different. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    You can’t FTP files to a WordPress.com site, so you can only use the themes they provide.

    as someone who is going nuts as well with this, does this mean i have to buy the domain in order for a custom theme to work?

    More accurately, you have to purchase a hosting account, part of which includes registering a domain name, in order to use WordPress.

    The wordpress.com service is a hosted blogging service, in which you don’t need to have your own hosting account or domain name, in order to have your own website. The trade-off is that you’re limited to the Themes and Plugins made available to you by wordpress.com, whereas with your own, self-hosted WordPress install, you can install/use whatever Themes or Plugins that you want.
