ok I hope you guys can help me, I moved my hosting away from go daddy following their support of sopa over to dream host, safe to say, go daddy has made this as pain full as possible every step of the way but i have finally gotten to where i need to be

now, as i under stood it i should have been able to just copy my full directory as it stood at go daddy and upload that to my hosting at dreamhost, that didnt work however, so i deleted that, used dream hosts 1 clcik wordpress install to create the databases and then uploaded all my files up to dream host (apart from the files that they allready had installed) via ftp

this let me “register” the site, but when i went into admin all i can access was the profile section fo the admin dashboard and thats it, so can anyone tell me how i can actually get my site back up and running again?

  • So anytime you are migrating a WordPress site, the two most important pieces are the database (since this is where all your content is stored) and the wp-content folder. You need to make sure you installed the same version of WordPress as you were running at GoDaddy.

Then in the new install of WordPress copy over the wp-content folder and import the database. Once you do this, the last step will be to change the database settings in WP-Config.

I hope this helps! You may want to review the moving WordPress codex.

Some one clikc installs limit your capabilities. So you may want to install WordPress manually.
