Plugin advice for 'selected post' list for display within widget…

Hi – just after some quick advice or suggestion about a plugin that I can use to display a specific list of posts within the right sidebar of my theme (similar I think to be able to display custom menu based upon specific pages) – I’d like a similar plugin to use for posts.

Within widgets there are already options such as ‘Recent posts’, however, I want to show a specific list of posts (within a category ‘News’).

This may be very simple, I’m just not sure how to go about it.
