Can't access install.php

    Hey all,

    I’m having some trouble getting WordPress installed.

    I am using DirectAdmin to set this all up. I created a new domain and created a new SQL Database to our domain.

    I went in and changed the wp-config.php file to have all of this database information in it. I then uploaded all the files through ftp to the /home/admin/public_html folder on our server.

    However, when I try to access the install.php file by going to ourwebsite.org/wp-admin/install.php I get the following:

    Something went wrong…

    The page you tried to access does not exist on our server.
    For now, you may want to visit our site’s homepage.
    Wix.com

    Wix is the program that was used for our site previously.

    First question is, why can’t I access the install.php? The files were placed as was specified. The second question is, I read that I should create a new folder for wordpress if I don’t want to delete our old webpage yet, is this true?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    WIX hosts the files for your site on their servers. Which means the domain is probably still pointed there. Do you have a URL we can look at?

    Tim,

    Thanks for that info, it actually helped a lot. The previous guy in charge of the website here had all sorts of redirects going on.

    Anyways, now I have it setup without wix but it’s still saying that the URL is not found, so I must have done something wrong. I’ve double checked and the wordpress files are all in /home/admin/public_html.

    On another note,

    On looking at a different installation instructions, I noticed it said that the files should be installed in the root directory. However, when I try to upload files into the /root directory, I continuously get “upload failed” messages as it tries to change the permissions for the files.

    Is this the directory I should be uploading wordpress into?

    If you want WordPress to function by going to your domain name, then yes you need to upload them to the root directory. However, there’s methods to point WordPress to the domain with it being outside of the /root for the domain. http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
