• Question: Why is there no longer an option to link directly to an image via HTML link when I click on insert image in a post? I have direct linked to images on my FTP server for years and now I have to hand code each entry. Am I missing something?

You mean the From Url tab in the Add Media modal window? It’s still there.

Yes, that button is not there for me in 3.3.1.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

Jeez, it’s a theme issue…i can’t believe 1) i didn’t’ think of that. and 2) that a theme would code out something so vital! AHHHHH!

People often overlook themes as the culprit for an Admin issue because they assume that a theme only affects the front end of a site. Unfortunately, that’s far from the truth – although this is rarely done deliberately. More often than not, the theme is out-dated or isn’t coded quite as well as it could be. Glad to hear that you’ve managed to find the source of the problem, anyway. 🙂
