• Hi – not sure if this is the right place, but here it goes. I want to use wordpress.org, but I already have a website on wix that is registered at godaddy.com. I want to create a new site on wordpress.org but I don’t want to replace my current site right now, I need to create the wordpress site first. How can I do this without replacing my existing site?

  • By installing WordPress in a sub-folder on your domain. Then when you are ready to launch the new site, see Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory.

HI – thanks for the fast reply esmi. Will I have to pay extra for that on my domain?

Nope. You can usually have hundreds of sub-folders within any given hosting account.

Do you have hosting with GoDaddy? Wix usually requires you to point your domain to their servers – and does not require hosting. To use WordPress you’ll need a hosting package from a web host. I hope this helps!

I can’t figure out how to add a sub-folder on godaddy. arh!
TIM S- I have hosting with Godaddy now. My website is designed in WIX but I HATE IT. I want to move to wordpress.org, but want to create the site before replacing my old one.

Your website is pointed to WIX right now. I’m not sure if GoDaddy offers a sort of temp URL to work from but ideally that would be the way to go. I work for a hosting company and we give our customers a URL to use that is not domain specific.

sounds confusing and hard and frustrating. argh!

Contact Godaddy and ask them if they can provide you with a temporary url until you move your domain name.
