• I recently updated WordPress, using the automatic update option, and just discovered that my index.php page had been overwritten! My WordPress blog is on a separate page (news.php), and my index.php page was not managed through WordPress. Is this normal after an update? Are there other files that might get overwritten as well?

Is this not something that anyone else has ever experienced?

Files which have changed between your existing installation and the new one will be overwritten.

index.php is a WordPress file so it’s normal that it’s replaced with the proper version when updated.

If you don’t want your WordPress install to be your landing site, install it in a subdirectory and link to it from your main page.

It doesn’t seem that that ought to be the case, but I suppose one could argue that I’m using it incorrectly by having the base address for my blog be a news.php page, rather than a news/ subdirectory. I suppose I’ll just have to accept that I have to either replace the index.php file with my own file after every update or move the WordPress stuff into a subdirectory. (Any pointers to instructions on doing the latter?)
