• I have installed WordPress to my website http://www.pencashna.com which is hosted by 1and1. All went smoothly, until I reached their instruction to:

Open a browser and access your domain. When the domain points to the correct folder, you should see a WordPress page informing you that there is no configuration file.

What I get instead is an error message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /homepages/8/d73635425/htdocs/pencashna-wp/wordpress/wp-admin/index.php on line 33

I had a look at index.php, but line 33 appears to be a comment, so obviously it doesn’t really mean line 33! I searched the file for T_OBJECT_OPERATOR but it isn’t there. I don’t know much about php.

    Can you help?

  • Try re-uploading all files & folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

OK, trying it now. Hold the line!

OK, I got a bit further this time. Thanks for the suggestion Esmi, it never occurred to me that it might be a corrupt download.

But now I get a message saying:

Your server is running PHP version 4.4.9 but WordPress 3.3.1 requires at least 5.2.4.

Oh dear! Looks like 1and1 need to upgrade. I will be sending them an email shortly.

    Thanks again for the assistance.

    Hi Sue,

This is certainly something to take up with your host. In all likelihood they should be able to move your account to a server that meets the requirements for WordPress. I work for a large hosting company and we do this sort of thing all the time. I hope this helps!
