• I just loaded wp onto my domain jimstravelventures.com. I had a site on there that was created in iweb and ftp’d about 3 years ago. I am now going to use wp for a blog. The install was successful and I can get to the wp-admin OK. When I went to the site, I got the old site. I deleted the welcome.html file and tried again. I got the old site, then I remembered I needed to refresh the browser window. Then I got a 404 page not found error that still shows the url as Jimstravelventures.com/welcome.html, even when I put in /index.php. I forgot a lot of the details about uploading the original files but don’t understand why I can’t get to the new site. Where is it keeping the rference to the welcome.html file. Do I need to delete all the old files? Most of this is new to me so I appreciate any help.
    Thanks

  • When I visit your domain it is displaying a default WordPress installation. Are you still having issues?

    Yes,
I just tried it again and got the same results except that I also tried with Safari and I was able to connect. I still can not connect using Firefox or Chrome. I rebooted my system and still get the same results. I’m really confused now.

    Thanks

You need to clear your browser cache. I see the website and also the wp-admin dashboard.

    Thanks,
I hadn’t thought about clearing cache. I had tried reloading the window but now realize I was just reloading the bad address. I thought it must be something simple because I could get to wp-admin OK and I knew everything was there but it just wouldn’t let me get to the site. When I could get to it from Safari because I very rarely use it, I figured it must be browser related, but didn’t understand why Chrome had the same error because I thought I tried it after I had deleted the welcome file. But It all works now. Good lesson. Thanks again.

No worries! Thats what we hang around for. Best Wishes!
