• I have spent days … actually closer to a week … trying to get user registration to work. From what I’m reading, I could have thousands of blogs each with thousands of users, each of which I have to manually go in and figure out which blog they’re supposed to registered for somehow and move them to it.

    Is there something I’m missing here? Does using multisite actually make it HARDER to run multiple blogs (or virtually impossible in the business I was getting ready to set up on it)?

    Any help appreciated, even if it’s just saying it’s not going to work.

    Diane

    Just to clarify – it’s not “users” per se I’m worried about, just your average, everyday registered subscribers

    It all depends on your business model.

    I’d use these:

    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/moderate-new-blogs/
    * http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/limit-blogs-per-user/

    And then my subscribers can request a new blog, but I have to approve it 🙂

    I want to offer some information or downloads only to people who have actually registered on the site, not just someone who has run across it. I want to offer that same ability to people who I give their own blog to (and I have no trouble making that level personally approved :D) Would I have to go all out and get some sort of membership plugin to do that?

    Yes and (sadly) that means the membership would be managed per site :/

    basically you’re giving other people the ability to make their own sites and manage them as they want.

    ^%)*%^ (expletive deleted) – well, good to know and I won’t spend any more time trying to do something that can’t be done. Thanks for getting back to me so fast.

    Hi Dianne,
    I’m just looking into multisite myself, so no expert, but I thought you might want to look into this plugin before giving up – as it sounds like it’s just what you need…

    Multisite User Management Plugin:

    Plugin Description says:
    Running a WordPress network? You no longer need to manually add new users to each of your sites. With this plugin, users are assigned a default role for each of your sites. You set the default role for each site and this plugin applies it. You can assign different roles for each site or keep a site private by assigning no role.

    Here’s a couple of other plugins I’ve found (but not tried yet) that you might like to check out too:

    Limit Blogs Per User Plugin:

    Moderate New Blogs Plugin:

    Hope this helps.
    Regards, Karen

    It looks like the links I inserted via the link insertion method are not working…. (a wordpress bug perhaps??) so here goes again, with manual link insertion:

    Multisite User Management Plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/multisite-user-management/

    Limit Blogs Per User Plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/limit-blogs-per-user/

    Moderate New Blogs Plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/moderate-new-blogs/
