Changed Permalinks, now pages show 404 error
-
First off. I am using Go Daddy Hosting. I have windows hosting, why you might ask, because it was the only “familiar” word I knew lol. Anyways. When I set my wordpress blog up I added a custom structure permalink. A week or so later I found another permalink that would help supposedly with SEO, more so than the one I had. So without properly READING what steps to take, I just changed the permalink to the new setting and pressed save. I noticed a little message at the top of my screen that stated : Permalink structure updated. Remove write access on web.config file now! I was like ok and continued on my day assuming Go Daddy would do that..later that night I noticed in my live traffic feed that people were going to pages that were “not found”. I tried to access the pages from google and was unable to and got 404 errors, so the freak out began. So after hours of searching the net for a solution, the only one I found that pertained to me was to just go into permalinks and set to wordpress default and then go to my Go Daddy Hosting Control Center and redirect all 404 error pages to my homepage, which is what I am doing now. I do not have a .htaccess file, nor do I have the option to view hidden files. The only file I have is the one the message told me to remove write access on, which is web.config. So my question is since I can’t remember what my original permalink was, what can I do to get customized permalinks to work again on my website. Everything works fine if you go to the main page but now when someone clicks on a old post in google search, instead of being brought to that page they are being transferred to my home page. Which is in a way good for me, but bad for them lol. Is there anything that can be done without the hassle of changing to linux? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I also should note I am not extremely literate in code. I am a good copy paster, saver, viewer and repeater until I get it righter. =) Thank You.
