sound link in text

I am trying to create a sound file that will appear as a symbol which, when clicked, allows the reader to hear the sound while continuing to read.
But I can create only the sort that merely highlights the word in the text – and when the reader clicks on the highlighted word the whole page turns black, thus preventing the reader to continue reading.
