Blog Heading

I am using the WooTheme Spectrum and the I have a gallery category and put my images on as blogs. I want to be able to be able to eliminate the text and the black box over the image. Is there a way to do that?

Also, is there a way to have my images in the blog scale to fit the height and/or width of the image space so that the image doesn’t get cut off as in this page:

Please dumb it down for me as much as possible as I know very very little of this! Thanks!
