If you want, you can upload a custom icon for the placemark. For example, if you were creating a map of your favorite restaurants, you could upload each restaurant’s logo to use as their marker. This is how the example site (washingtonhousechurches.net) has different icons for different markers.

If you don’t upload a custom icon, it’ll use the default icon of a typical map pin.

Do I get it correctly? If I upload a featured image for a specific placemark, it will replace the standard icon? correct?

Can we also do this on a category bases? So I define a category and I can specify an icon for this category, which then replaces the standard icon on the map?

    Is this possible?

@gideonsmolders – Yes, setting a featured image on a placemark overrides the default icon.

Right now you can’t set a featured icon for an entire category, but I may add that feature in the future.
