Edit my homepage

Please know that I have looked through over a dozen posts on this and after an hour of not finding my answer I feel the only way is to write my own post.

I need to edit my homepage. I don’t want to make it static b/c I do want a blog on it. If you go to my page http://www.rmpuppyrescue.org/site I want to get rid of the big picture/scrolling box on the top. How do I do this? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I thought I’d be able to just download and activate a new template but then I realized that all of my pages were lost and I don’t know how to go about getting them to show up on the new templete.

I’m not sure which would be easier to do but I would love any help.
