3. There are some plugins available which will also help you add keywords back into your meta tags, which should be in that article, too, or look at http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins
WordPress works so well out of the box with search engines that I wouldn’t mess with adding anything that might be even remotely considered spammy. I don’t even mess with custom permalinks and I get great results. Put out good content, updated regularly and work to crosslink with other relevant sites.
And by the way, adding your site link to your user profile gets you a spiderable link every time you ask a question, fwiw.
