• Hey all,

I’m interested in using WordPress as an e-commerce platform and I was wondering what everyone’s opinion on it was. Do you guys feel that the current WordPress e-commerce offerings are good enough for large stores? How do you feel it compares to the other more popular e-commerce platforms such as Magento? I’m starting a project soon, so your opinions would be very helpful.

Also, I know this question is a little more specific but, with the current e-commerce plugins available, can you use any WordPress theme or does it have to be specifically compatible with the plugin?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can use almost any theme. I believe the big plugins are pretty compatible.

    Hi ArthurCatigbe,

WordPress is a great product and a wonderful Content Management System. However, keep in mind it is not a e-commerce software. I’m aware of some plugins that help you set up an e-shop in WordPress, but you may not get all the functionality you would out of a third party e-commerce software.

You could set up the front of the site in WordPress and power the e-shop with another solution such as cubecart, magento, or OSCommerce. Then you have the best of both worlds, a great dynamic-content driven website, and a large store front for your website.

I hope this sheds some light on your situation.

    Thanks!
