• I’ll try to make this as short and sweet as possible…

But basically I have a site, I want to have 3 pages that will be designated for 3 different blog pages.
The homepage i want to be designated for just recent news, updates, contests, etc…
then I have the standard static pages like about us, etc…

But my question is, I went through the WP tutorial on how to change your posts to go to another page rather than the default posting on the homepage. It should be posting there but when I publish, I see nothing.

How do I setup the pages, posts and categories so that I can easily compose a post, and in the editing box, decide exactly where it will be posted.

I am new to all of this so if anybody can offer any assistance, feel free, and please dumb it down a little bit for me lol.

Im trying to get the hang of all of this! Im trying Im trying 😛

  • a page is a static thing. Categories are pages with posts. By selecting different categories when you post, you determine the content of those category pages.

    Look at my site http://hollysfolly.com

My front page is messed up at the moment…missing some posts. But the purple bar is all categories. Those pages that are linked there change as I add content and select the category from the new post window.

The pages on the left are more static…updated from time to time but no posts appear on them.

    Hope this helps!

I think I know what you’re after. You want to have posts appearing on specific pages, but you have a number of different pages that you want post to appear on.

Holly explained that when you create a post you are effectively creating a page with a post on. However, like most blogs, your posts will appear in whole or in part on one page all together. When you click on the post it will then take you to that post page.

My suggestion for this is that you purchase a theme which will allow you to do this easily. I use Elegant Themes (http://www.elegantthemes.com) and these will allow you to set up a variety of categories and pages. For each of the pages you can then specify which posts you want to appear on which page eg your News page will show the posts which have been categorised as News, while your Contests page will show the posts that have been categorised as Contests. You can have multiple categories for post (a post may be categorised as Contests but also be News in which case it will appear on both pages).

    Hope this helps.
