• Totally new to WP and am trying to help someone out with their site. Trying to add some plugins so that they can change titles and descriptions for SEO. Codex refers to an ‘Add Plugins’ option on the Plugins Admin Screen. Can’t find it. Only menus I’ve got are Dashboard, Pages, and Appearance. Not sure what version I’m using. Where can I see that?

I realize WP uses PHP but isn’t there an easy way to directly edit what’s between the <head> tags in the HTML?

  • are you using self-hosted domain.com wordpress.ORG software?

or, wordpress hosted, something.wordpress.COM type site?

If it’s wordpress.COM, you are in the wrong forum, theirs is http://en.forums.wordpress.com

I can howevere tell you that wordpress.COM hosted sites do not allow installing plugins, or editing code

    self-hosted domain.com wordpress.ORG software

Are you sure that you are logged in with full Admin status?

Not 100% sure. This site was designed by someone else. I see a username called Admin and that’s not what I’m logged in as. I’m using the site owner’s login which does say ‘Administrator’ under role.

What version of WordPress is being used?

how do i find that out?

Try looking in Right Now on the Dashboard.

    Should have saw that.

    WordPress 3.0.5

    Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress 3.0.5.

Was hoping to find a way to do everything through the browser. If I have to go the FTP route I might as well just make the changes to the code directly.
