Cannot Upload a new theme that I purchased

Hi,
I joined WordPress 36 hours ago. I purchased a WordPress theme through a company called themeforest.net. I downloaded the zip file on my computer that contained the new theme.

When I go to the area in my dashboard where I try to upload the zip file of the theme, it doesn’t ever load. It just keeps trying and trying.

I thought I read something about the DNS not being active for 24 to 48 hours. Could that be why I am unable to load the theme yet? I’m not even sure if the DNS has anything to do with it. I can’t imagine I can’t do anything with the new site building for 48 hours, but maybe so.

If you are referring to a wordpress.com site, you need to post to the wordpress.com forum. This is the wordpress.org forum that supports self-hosted wordpress sites.

If you have bought a theme, you should probably contact the people you bought it off for support.

Thank you for the response. I was actually referring to wordpress.org and not wordpress.com. I have a self hosted site that I have purchased a theme for.

I have now contacted themeforest.net to see if they can help me. I was thinking that I needed help from wordpress since it is their site I am unable to upload the file to.

However, I’ll try themeforest to see what they have to say.

If you can see the dashboard, then it is certainly not a dns issue.

As for the theme not installing. Did you try uploading the folder through FTP?

You can simply copy the actual theme folder in wp-content/themes/

Also, please see the zipped folder also. Sometimes when you purchase a theme, the zip contains several folders only one of which ultimately contains the theme files. You need to copy only that final folder that contains the actual theme files.

Thank you for the help. I ended up getting filezilla and uploading the files onto the site that way. So I am done worrying about the zipped file. However, now I don’t know where the files ended up. I understand I need to send the files to the themes page, but I don’t know where the file is currently.

Can someone tell me where the files would end up in WordPress when you upload them through the FTP?

I know. I’m in over my head. This is why people get paid for this. Sorry to be a bother people. ;(

You should upload the theme folder into wp-content/themes/ after which it should appear in your Dashboard for activation.

If you uploaded them, surely you know where you uploaded them to.

Assuming you were uploading the theme’s folder, you would upload it into the directory wp-content/themes. So in FileZilla, you would want to change directory to ../wp-content/themes (on the right hand side) and then upload the theme directory and contents from the left hand side.

Isn’t that what you have?

HElP..I bought a theme from themeforrest and downloaded the zip file and it will not upload to wp…it says it is trying and trying and never uploads and says word press erroe..

oh I am so frustrated…I read a few more posts with this same problem and it does not seem like it got resolved. Is there anyone I can actually talk to? Thanks

1. Upload it manually by FTP

2. If your web host provides it, upload via the cPanel
