Yahoo php admin

I am trying to learn WordPress. When I goto my site http://www.mysite.com/wordpress it asks me for a user name and password…so I login.
The screen is set up with 3 sections with http://www.mysite.com at the top, on the left it says “select database” in the middle is a table.
When I logon to http://www.mysite.com/wordpress/wp-login.php it shows the blog that I set up called “kate” and I uploaded a theme and that is selected…but when I click on “view site” it looks nothing like the theme…it takes me to http://www.mysite.com/wordpress. What am I not understanding? I have yahoo as a host with database privlidges, I used FTP to upload the wp files….Thanks for helping me!
