• I’m new to the WP community but I’ve been working in e-commerce for several years now. Whenever WP people find out about my e-commerce background they always tell me that “WP really needs a good e-commerce solution.”

It looks like most people are using either the WP E-Commerce plugin or Cart 66. I haven’t done an in depth review of these solutions but on the surface it would seem these are both pretty decent plugins.

I’d like to contribute something to the WP community that would address the e-commerce gap but I need some help understanding why people are so unsatisfied with the current offerings. I’m convinced there’s a need but I can’t move forward without some specifics.

    Your feedback is appreciated.

  • Mostly because of unfixed bugs and the lack of features, support and documentation (at least for non-commercial plugins).

Both WP E-Commerce and Cart66 have free and paid versions, so people can’t be blamed for thinking that the focus/support of the plugin developers is on the premium version.

Although I think WP E-Commerce is better than before since it now uses custom post types.

Mostly because of unfixed bugs and the lack of features, support and documentation (at least for non-commercial plugins).

That’s a little sweeping and unfairly generalised, don’t you think?

Sorry if that came out wrong, I was just merely listing the possible reasons for flanderz’s question.
