[Plugin: Promotion Slider] Praise and constructive feedback

I’ve started playing with this component today and have it doing exactly what I need. Great admin interface, great documentation and good flexibility. I’ve voted this 5/5 and will donate as soon as we get our implementation live (need to get my designer to apply some styling).

All that said I did have to ‘hack’ my way through to get things exactly as I needed so here’s my thoughts on potential improvements:

– content other than images
I guess this wasn’t the originally intended use but I managed to provide my slides with full custom html content alongside the images by using the excerpt, ‘ad code’ function and a fair bit of css hacking. The end result is exactly what I’m after but it would have felt much more natural to be able to use the main content area and have a handful of options for how the html content should display in relation to the featured image (e.g. overlayed, side-by-side, right aligned etc) without resorting to including markup and styles in the promotion.

– custom navigation
being able to separate out the navigation and utilise some form of js hooks into the slider would be a nice feature as would being able to set the selected item by some form of anchor/hashbang. I wanted to be able to provide different addresses to the page which would pre-select a relevant slide (e.g. http://mysite.com/mysliderpage#slide1). I also refer to different slides elsewhere in the page so being able to easily offer a link which switches the selected slide would be nice.

Overall though excellent plugin and please don’t take offence to the feedback, I’m aware I may be pushing a bit beyond it’s intended purpose but thought I’d provide my thoughts for consideration. Thanks again.
