I have installed the free relevanssi and built the index. But the search is still the default WordPress search. Is there anything else that has to be done?

No, so sounds like a problem. One thing to watch for is your search results template. Does it contain a call to query_posts() function? That’ll mess up Relevanssi.

Have the same… and no query_posts function.

No change at all after install and indexing.

Also notice similar issue here, possibly custom fields are not getting indexed?

Just found out that my reading preferences were set to 1, that was why the results were not happening. Rookie mistake.
