Are you highlighting the image before you click on the add link button?

Click on the image in the editor once you’ve added it to the post. While it is selected, you can see an option to edit the image. in these settings, you’ll find things like resizing the image, aligning it left, right, center and also adding in a link for the image.
The ‘add link’ will only work either if you have clicked on the image first, or have highlighted text.

thanks so much guys! i DID highlight the image, but it never saved the link properly. i now tried to click in the “image edit” icon that appears when you click on the actual image and using that link editor it actually worked! thanks a bunch 😉

this is so bizarre. i saved and resaved the new url and the second i update the actual page, it just reverts back to the old url gibberish. what can i do??? this is so frustrating.

LIKE, it will just make up a url and override the one i saved.
Can you give us an example of a link you tried to add and the link that WordPress generated?
I’m having the same problem, it is intermittant but really frustrating. I have tried to alter in the gallery image, in the image in the post, and even in the HTML. No matter what I try the link simply reverts back to what it was: blank in some cases, an exisitng link in others.
Sometimes I want the image to link to itself so I just click on that image. Half the time I have to delete the image and re-insert it. Today I was trying to substitute a download link to a zip file in the media library (uploads). It’s been 10 minutes and it will flat not allow me to change. I’m stumped.
