• There seem to be as many image slider plugins as there are WP developers! Unfortunately, after looking at many of the descriptions and screenshots, I can’t find one that does what I want — so I’m hoping someone can tell me which one(s) will.

I want a horizontal display of, say, four images. They should slide in from the left or the right. After a configurable delay, those four images should be replaced with another four images, again sliding horizontally.

I may want the gallery to slide one image at a time, so that three of the previous images are still visible at each interval.

I need no navigation or thumbnails; text overlays may be nice. And there should be no limit to the number of images in the gallery, whether they are loaded from a particular directory or category of posts.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi mrtoner, as far as I am aware there is not an existing slider plugin that will do exactly what you describe. You could develop something custom, or you might have to compromise. If you’re willing to compromise here are some options:

    1. Wp-Cycle is a very simple slider that will let you slide images in and out horizontally with a configurable delay. You can’t do the 4 images, just 1 at a time. Very easy to install, configure and use.

    2. An Accordion slider – see example here. This one lets you stack a handful of images which slide to reveal full image on mouseover.

    Hope this helps.

    That accordion slider is amazing.

Thanks, folks. Neither one — as you note — is quite what I want. Although I described it well, the actual term for the feature is “carousel.” This plugin is probably just what I need. I’m playing with the underlying jCarousel jQuery plugin and I’m very impressed.
