Permalink problem?

    I have just installed wp for the first time and have it running on my local server while I get to know the workings.

    I have a plugin which should enable me to display the index page from my genealogy site (also on the local server)in a page within wp. The plugin reports: ‘You cannot use the default permalink structure with this plugin’

    I have created a new page to receive my localhost/genealogy/index.php
    however the page which is displayed by wp is localhost/?page_id=9

    The page is not displaying the information I require.

    The permalinks help pages have confused me, and this may not even be the area where I’m going wrong.

    Is there anyone who can advise me please?

    Have you review Using_Permalinks? Have you tried simply using one of the preset defaults? Personally I use the day-month option on all of my sites.

    I’ve read the review several times today and am now more confused than before!

    It may be that permalinks are not my problem, but I suspect I need a custom structure for a category called something like site_links (don’t understand how to create a category either!

    All this feels like I’m missing something real simple and the harder I look, the less I see!
