Editing theme images

I’m using the ‘Pretty Young Thing’ theme, and trying to edit the color of both the post divider and the ribbon footer at the bottom of my page. Am I able to do that? Or are images un-editable? Would I have to delete them and then add in my own to designate a color I wanted?
