Can't install WP

Hello.
I am a novice when it comes to this, however I do understand the basics. However I have managed to already spend a valuable days work on a job that wordpress claims should only take 5 minutes… installing wordpress.
I keep falling at the final fence…

I had a wordpress blog/site that an associate created for me (a custom built theme).
I had to move from his server 7 months ago. He provided me with a back-up zip folder of that site. (I have no idea which version of WP it was using. But I think that theme would only work on that version.)
The site has not been live for 7 months.
I now finally own the domain name.
I’m now with fasthosts.

Ideally I’d like to upload the old website backup files, but right now I just wanna get WP installed.

So I’ll try to keep this brief and to the point…

Today I tried a fresh intstall of wordpress:
I created my MySQL5.0 database.
Downloaded / intalled filezilla.
Updated the info on wp-config (sample) with the correct DB info – using notepad.
Dragged and dropped the files.

I then fill out the fields required on log-in and hit install.

(Note: It seems to recognise a password, asking me to confirm it, but I can’t get it to match the censored PW (dots). I’ve tried entering the old password (from 7 months ago), and entering 2 new matching passwords. I’ve also tried using the ‘admin’/automated password system.. either way I ultimately gets the same results. (below).

WordPress ‘successfully’ installs, albeit with about 50+ errors listed.

Below this huge list of errors it offers the option to log in with the recognised username displayed. I enter the password, it leads to another very basic looking username / password window. I then enter log-in details here and NOTHING happens.
There the forgot/resend password facility fails to send.

I have now repeated the above processes approximately 6 times, trying diffenerent approaches.. creating and appling different databeses, deletimng and re-uploading files to the remote site via fileziller. reconnecting / renaming ‘New Site’ in site manager in fileziller. Have tried several different password combinations.

It all now feels very messy and frustrating! Going round in circles.
Not sure how to resolve this.
