Cron refresh of galleries

I’ve scripted conversion of my images and also upload to my server and I am now looking for some additional NextGEN gallery function – or do they already exist?
I would like to be able to trigger a cron that would call an url with e.g. an API-key to do a refresh of a specific gallery – i.e. scan for new images and possibly also sort
Any thoughts around this?

Other interesting commands would be: create a new gallery, album, bind gallery to album etc etc
