MU on 'fake' root domain

    Hi

    I have a website on ‘domain.com’ on server1 and want to install WordPress as subdomains to domain.com but on a different server in a different location, server2.

    Because MU needs to be installed on the root domain if I want to create sites on subdomains, I have created an entry in hosts which points ‘domain.com’ to server2 and installed WordPress there.

    So far so good, but after configuring config.php and enabled domain mapping plugin, WordPress keeps saying I need to create a network.

    Is it not possible to install MU this way? Does MU absolutely require the domains A record pointing to it for it to work? Is there a workaround?

    It’s not MU. It’s multisite.

    Also… multisite is one install on one server. The domain mapping plugins is used with multisite to make the SUB sites have different domains. on the same server. in the same database.
