I am having the same problem which started recently within the last 6 weeks. I think it began when i update to Version 1.7.4 and then updated my WP version too. I upload my images the same way i have in the past. small files usually 600×400 pixels around 100-200kb. The gallery creates fine. The images upload fine but then the thumbnails don’t work in the “Manage Gallery” section. Nor do they work on the front end. But if i am in the “Manage Gallery” section and i click to edit the image the image will appear. So it seems the problem is with the thumbs. I have it occurring on multiple sites on multiple servers.
On Cocophotos.com I am running WP 3.0.4 and NextGEN 1.7.4 and experiencing the problem.
On CaliforniaBikiniModels.com i am running WP 3.1.1 and NextGEN 1.7.4 and experiencing the problem.
On another site DogParksSanDiego.com i am running WP 3.0.1 and NextGEN 1.7.4 and Not experiencing the problem.
Does anyone have any solutions to this problem?
On one of my newer sites. I have updated to the latest WP version 3.1.3 and i downloaded and installed the NextGEN 1.8 Beta2 from his site.
I created a new gallery. Then went to upload images that were 600x400pixel between 200-300kb to the gallery.
Bug 1 – I needed to click upload 2x, the 1st click did not start the upload process.
Bug 2 – Once again the Thumbs were Not generated. Same issue as before.
I tried going through Edit Thumb and manually resizing as a workaround, which does create a thumb but then you can not go back and resize thumb again. It locks the thumb you manually create.
Anyone got any answers or solutions. I am battling with this issue, seeing that as a photographer i can’t upload any new galleries to my websites.
I have done a little comparison study on my sites to see where & if there was a specific WP version & Next GEN version that the problems started. I only started noticing this problem within the last couple weeks.

Does this info help anyone in figuring out a solution to the problem? The problems began with WP 3.1.1 and NGG 1.7.4 On the TinaDiamond site that WP version is what it was built with. On CaliforniaBikiniModels, ErikaFernandez, Cocophotos it was updated to those Versions. But then on SzabinaBarta that is what the site was built with.
Any ideas?
And when I changed the gallery plugin to older version the problem didn’t solved. Please help to solve it.
