Home page "cannot be found"
-
I have a problem with my home page not showing up properly. I see the theme with my menu but it says “Whoops! Whatever you are looking for cannot be found.” I can navigate to my other pages and they all show up for the most part. Still learning wordpress and still tweaking.
I looked around the codex and learned that I could change my permalik settings. I uploaded the Permalink Editor Version 0.2.7 plugin which allowed me to change the Custome Structure to /%pagename%. Then I made the Category base “pages” and the Page permalink /WordPress/%pagename%. This was after being on the hone with my host who pointed out the package I’m using adds “WordPress” to the permalink. This helped make my pages show up, which they were not under default, but homepage is still not visible.
I’ve recently switched my client rincondance.org from wordpress.com to wordpress.org. I’m using my client’s host who has a WordPress Package I can only edit in the Dashboard and via plugins. I have no ftp access and cannot modify the html files.
I saw a similar problem discussed in the post http://wordpress.org/support/topic/web-page-cannot-be-found?replies=7, but I have no access to .htaccess according to my host with the current WP package. Is there a way to fix this from the Dashboard?
I also tried switching my permalink settings to “default” which made the home page show up, but then all my other pages looked the same as my home page.
Please help. My client has an event coming up very soon, they have begun to advertise and I have to make sure the site is perfect. The home page should have a large photo of a guy with a microphone.
