newbie question

Hello !
after a friend of mine helped me get the install correctly onto my sever.. i now have another problem..and its a dumb one too..
ok.. here goes.: i want to make a website with no blog page (for now)
i have my theme allready ,i want to add a page or a simple thing like “Under construction” or just a simple thing like that.. i publish or try to view and i get nothing..i know it woked befor just after my first log in but i must have changed or broken somthing.. is there a reset button to change all back to defaults or must i reinstall ???
