@imagex,
The really short answer is ‘no’.
This is not possible without hacking the current code and any changes would not be committed to the core code due to international privacy laws.

what do you mean due to the ihternational privacy laws?
so it is against privacy law to have a field asking for name aswell as email address?
how come mail chimp and constant contact then allow you to create forms with any fields you want easily and ad them to your website?
why is the subscribe2 any different? Let me know ASAP please
@imagex,
In many countries you are not supposed to request and hold information that you are not going to use Subscribe2 does not NEED a name to work, just an email address. I cannot speak about other plugins – that is down to their authors.

Im not talking about other plugins, Im talking about 2 of the biggest email marketing companies now. Mail Chimp and Constant Contact – which operate everywhere in the world.
Obviously it is important to have a name aswell as an email address to make it more personal when contacting your subscribers. If this was ‘illegal’ why do every email marketing company have this function?
I look forward to a sensible reply from you… thanks
Instead of using the widget, you can use a Text widget with a link to the registration form for blog users (as subscriber if that is the default user role). There they can register the name and and manage their Subscribe2 subscribtions. Registered users have more functionality, e.g. subscribing to specific categories.
Hi
This great plugin seems not working with Gogole chrome (it’s ok with IE)
The buttons don’t appear. I’ve instead this text : “You may manage your subscription options from your profile.”
My site : http://www.les-crises.fr
Widget at the right in “S’abonner aux publications”
Thanks a lot !
@imagex,
Mail Chimp and Constant Contact are commercial companies, privacy policies and a pricing structure.
Subscribe2 is a plugin for WordPress written and managed by one person – me, for use on any number of websites for free. These sites may have no privacy policy in place. I refuse to be complicit in writing code that may allow others to infringe peoples privacy – I cannot afford a lawyer – Mail Chimp and Constant Contact quite clearly can!
Subscribe2 is NOT an email marketing company so you are not comparing like with like. And if you want to read more about Data Protection here is a link to the UK law:

@oestani,
While in Google Chrome and looking at your own site – log out to see the form you see in IE.
