custom post type insert url

    Has anyone figured a way to for a custom post type to have a url insertion
    field eg
    the user logs in as author and can simply copy and paste a url which then gets inserted into the post.
    so a html novice doesnt really need the use of tinymce etc
    the hard work is done for them
    have tried lots of plugins but none do the job
    so would like to edit functions.php
