Gallery for downloads – need plugin?

    I am designing a CMS for a software vendor, using WP3.1.
    They have a number of downloads available for tools that you can bolt onto the product (like WordPress has plugins)

    I need to create a slick interface to be able to easily browse, search and download these tools. The current downloads page is not acceptable.

    My criteria is fairly flexible. I like these two examples:
    WP Blog showing Themes to download
    Code Gallery

    I was hoping to find a plugin that might fit the description and work with my Boldy theme.

    i.e. A thumbnail, name of tool, and maybe a user rating (not essential). Hovering over the tool would provide more info, or perhaps open up a separate page?

    Flexible on how it looks and feels, even something similar to how WordPress Plugins directory works.

    I imagine I will need a plugin that involves some Custom Post Types?
    It needs to be easily managable. Something that does not involve diving into code, every time you need to upload a new tool.

    I would have thought there would be some sort of plugin that is a bit like a gallery, perhaps aimed for shops showing their products online, with pics, prices, and maybe download links?
