Drop Down Menus (parent/child) Nav Bar

Hi. I’m completely new to WordPress and coding/websites for that matter. I’ve been playing around with a few different themes for our site http://www.theBroadeners.com and yet I can’t get the subcategory or child to drop down from the parent page. ex: I have “In Theaters” listed as a subcategory of “Movies” (as you can see in the side cateorgy widget) but can’t get it to drop from the top.

I don’t know if this theme allows for it, but even other themes that are advertised as it being allowed….don’t. I would like to learn both ways. Thanks.
